Obiora Nwankwo (born July 12, 1991 in Kaduna ) is a Nigerian football player .

Club career

Obiora Nwankwo were trained in Lagos at FC ECO Lagos and then loaned out to various clubs in Nigeria and Real Murcia in Spain .

In January 2010 he moved to Inter Milan in Italy . There Nwankwo first played in the youth team of the Italian champions before making his first-team debut in the group stage of the 2010/11 Champions League season in a 3-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur . Shortly afterwards he made his Seria A debut in a 2-1 defeat by Chievo Verona .

End of January 2011 Nwankwo was for the rest of the season 2010/11 at Parma on loan, holding a part of the transfer rights of the young Nigerian. With the Gialloblù, Nwankwo was hoping for more time. Before moving to Parma, Catania Calcio and AC Cesena also showed interest in him.

Also in the 2011/12 season Nwankwo was part of the Parma FC squad, which also holds part of the Nigerian's transfer rights, but was only used sporadically. In January 2012 he was loaned to AS Gubbio 1910 in Serie B , where he played regularly and was also able to score two goals.

In the summer of 2012 Nwankwo extended his contract with Inter Milan until June 30, 2015, but was immediately loaned to the Serie B club Calcio Padova so that he can develop his game further. In February 2013 Nwankwo was loaned to CFR Cluj in the Romanian League 1 for half a season . In June 2013, FC Parma acquired the remaining transfer rights to Nwankwo from Inter Milan.

In January 2014 Nwankwo moved to FC Córdoba in the Spanish Segunda División .

successes

National team

Nwankwo played in the Nigerian U20 national team and took part with this in the 2009 African Junior Football Championship in Rwanda . The selection of Nigeria took 3rd place.

Nwankwo also took part in the 2009 Junior World Cup in Egypt when the selection in the round of 16 against the German U20 national team was eliminated. He formed the central defense together with Ibok Edet during the tournament and played all four games of his team over the full game. The technical study group highlights Nwankwo, who scored a goal in the last group game against Tahiti, in the official tournament report as one of three players on his team and describes him as a “central defender with a good understanding of the game, organizer” and praises his “good position and passing game “As well as his ability to hit the ball.

Nwankwo was part of the Nigerian squad for the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa . His team won this tournament, with Nwankwo coming on in a group game against defending champions Zambia .

He also participates with the Nigerian national team in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil .
