Coat of arms of the ox of Gunzendorf

The Ox von Gunzendorf were a Frankish noble family .

history

The ox (s) of Gunzendorf had their headquarters with the castle and village of Gunzendorf, today part of the Buttenheim market in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg . The property later passed to the neighboring von Stiebar family and finally returned to the Würzburg monastery .

The Ox von Gunzendorf were organized in the knight canton of Gebürg . They can be traced for the first time in 1289 and became extinct in 1583. In addition to the seat in Gunzendorf, they also had a seat in Ebermannstadt , and castle estates in Gößweinstein and Neideck . The other possessions and claims included, partly to a lesser extent, Dreuschendorf , Eschenbach , Sundelhofen , Neuengereuth , Neinhardshofen , Berggrün, Kalteneggolsfeld , Stackendorf , Frankendorf , Hirschaid and Ebrach .

Georg Ochs von Gunzendorf was the first abbot of the Speinshart monastery from 1457 , he died at the age of 83 in 1503 and is buried in the monastery church. His successor Hermann Ochs von Wolfhardshof had a different coat of arms and therefore does not seem to be related to the family described.

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a red ox on a silver background. The helmet covers are red and silver. The crest consists of the head of an ox with red horns.
