The Octopus is a motor yacht that ranks 15th among the longest mega yachts in the world (as of July 2018).

development

The Octopus has a total length of 126 m and was delivered to its owner Paul Allen in 2003 . The yacht has a hangar for two helicopters , a 19 m long dinghy and a submarine for eight people. Side hatches above the waterline serve as a garage for smaller dinghies and jet skis .

It was designed by Espen Øino Naval Architects and built at HDW in Kiel on behalf of Lürssen . The hull is made of steel. It is currently for sale for 295,000,000 euros.

Calls

Paul Allen used the yacht and deep-sea exploration equipment in 2015 to search for the wreck of the Japanese battleship Musashi . The Musashi was sunk in the Sibuyan Sea in October 1944, towards the end of the Pacific War . At the beginning of March 2015, Allen discovered the wreck at a depth of about 1000 meters.

In August 2015, the ship's bell of the battle cruiser Hood in the Denmark Strait was recovered with the help of the Octopus , after the recovery failed in a first attempt in 2012.
