Ofden is a southern district of Alsdorf in the Aachen city region . To the north, Ofden borders directly on the Alsdorf recreational area Broichbachtal with its zoo and leisure park. The hamlet of Schleibach is located at the southern exit of the settlement .

In 1554 Ofden was first mentioned in a document as a village in the Broich parish in the Wilhelmstein district .

Due to the influx of workers for Alsdorf mining in the Aachen area , the city council decided in 1952 to build a satellite town on the plateau south of the Alsdorf pond. Under heavy financial burdens and with a loan from Marshall Plan funds, only 761 apartments were built in the fall of 1952 and a further 158 apartments were built between 1954 and 1955. There were also two churches, a post office, a sports field, a kindergarten, a primary school, a grammar school, a secondary school as well as retail stores and restaurants. A local recreation area with a mini golf course, an animal park, a punt pond with pedal boat rental and several playgrounds has been set up at the Alsdorfer Weiher. The name of the old town Ofden located there was transferred to this satellite town. The municipal high school and the secondary school moved to Alsdorf-Mitte as part of a new building in 2017. The disused buildings were demolished in order to create building land for new apartments.

The B 57 runs west of Ofden and the L 164 to the east. These thoroughfares, both in the direction of Würselen, are connected to the Theodor-Seipp-Strasse, which runs across Ofden and is the only access to the settlement for motor vehicles. Many streets in the settlement of Ofden are uniformly named for birds, small animals or plants.

The next junctions are "Alsdorf" and "Broichweiden" on the A 44 . The next stop on the Euregiobahn is Kellersberg , the next train station on the Cologne – Aachen line is Eschweiler Hbf .
