The Offenbrunngraben is a creek around one and a half kilometers long near Kalbensteinberg in the municipality of Markt Absberg in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen and the left and southwestern upper reaches of the Reichertsgraben .

geography

course

The Offenbrunngraben arises in the Spalter hill country at an altitude of 486  m above sea level. NHN southeast of Kalbensteinberg and not far from the district road WUG 21 . He initially flows north and in the open hallway, it flows through his first 200 meters to just under 0.1 hectares of open fountain pond , turns to the noticeable depression but then more and more on the northeastern run. East of Kalbensteinberg it enters the forest after a short tributary from the direction of the village and two other ponds of similar size on the left of the middle course. A narrow floodplain soon opens up in which it receives a further inflow from the left and right, both of which remain less than 0.5 km in length, like the one already mentioned. Finally, the Offenbrunngraben flows at an altitude of 407  m above sea level. NHN and on the city limits of Spalt in an east-northeast direction with the Aschenschlaggraben coming from the southeast to form the Reichertsgraben , which continues northeast to the “ HöfstettenerErlbach .

The 1.5 km long Offenbrunngraben flows out about 79 meters below its origin, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of about 52 ‰.

Catchment area

The brook drains an area of around 2.0 km², which in terms of natural space belongs to the southern Spalter hill country in the Central Franconian Basin . At its southern edge there is rock from the Black Jurassic , the other plateaus surrounding the valley are covered by Feuerletten ( Trossingen Formation ), the top layer of the Mittelkeuper , while the valley itself is cut into the sandstone Keuper below.

The catchment areas adjoin in turn

  • of the right upper reaches of the Reichertsgraben, Aschenschlaggraben in the east
  • the Klingenbach and another small tributary to the Igelsbach in the south
  • the Schwadergraben in the west, which runs to the "Höfstettener" Erlbach and
  • of the Erlbach itself in the northwest and north.

The only place in the catchment area is Kalbensteinberg, which is in a saddle position on the western watershed to the swather ditch. A little north and south of it, the two highest points each reach about 515  m above sea level. NHN . In addition to Markt Absberg, which covers the largest part, the small town of Spalt also has a small catchment area in the east. There is forest on just over a quarter of the drained area, it is mainly the steeper valley slopes. In the open corridor, the plateaus are mainly occupied by fields, in between there are some orchards on the upper slope towards the valley, as well as a number of rows of trees and hedges parallel to the contour lines.
