The Oklahoma State University - Stillwater (also OSU is called) any State University in Stillwater in the northern US state of Oklahoma . The university is the second largest public university after the University of Oklahoma with 23,307 students . It is the principal location of the Oklahoma State University System . The university is known for its research and teaching in the fields of architecture, agriculture, mechanical engineering and veterinary medicine.
history
The university was founded on December 24, 1890 as the Oklahoma Territorial Agricultural and Mechanical (A&M) College . The college was founded in what was then the Payne District . The unclear title "Territorial" college led to rivalries between towns in Payne. With the attainment of statehood, the word "Territorial" was finally deleted from the title in 1907. The university was given its current name in 1957.
The first students attended the university on December 14, 1891. Classes were held in local churches for two and a half years until the first academic building, later known as Old Central , opened on June 15, 1894. In 1896 the first graduation ceremony followed with six male academics.
The then headmaster Henry G. Bennet, who was involved in the college between 1928 and 1950, played a large part in the growth of the OAMC. Dr. Bennet had big visions for the college while in office. One of the main aspects of the college's growth was opening its own library for the university. That vision came true in 1953 with the opening of the Edmon Low Library.

Sports
The OSU sports team are the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Cowgirls . The mascot is a cowboy named Pistol Pete. The university is a member of the Big 12 Conference in the South Division. Acting sports director is Mike Holder.
Oklahoma State University has won a total of 48 national championships. This means that the OSU has won the fourth most national title in the country. The championships are divided into the following sports:
