Olaf Ortmann

Olaf Ortmann (born May 14, 1959 in Lübeck ) is a German gynecologist and obstetrician . He teaches as a professor at the University of Regensburg .

Live and act

Ortmann studied human medicine from 1978 to 1985 at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (preclinical) and the Medical University of Lübeck , where he received his license to practice medicine in 1985 . From 1982 to 1985 he was a PhD student at the Institute of Biochemical Endocrinology at the University of Lübeck and was awarded the dissertation influence of pituitary LH secretion by estradiol, 4-hydroxy estradiol and antiestrogens in the model of cultured rat pituitary doctorate . In the same year he began working as a research assistant at this institute and, as a postdoctoral fellow of the German Research Foundation, completed a research stay at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development of the National Institutes of Health (NICHD) in Bethesda (Maryland) until 1986 .
After returning from the United States , he completed the first part of his clinical training at the University Women's Clinic in Lübeck until 1989. Ortmann then moved to the Women's Clinic at the Philipps University in Marburg , where he completed his training in 1993 with recognition as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics. In the same year he was appointed senior physician , completed his habilitation in 1994 and was appointed private lecturer .
In 1996 Olaf Ortmann moved back to Lübeck, where he was appointed senior physician in charge and deputy clinic director in 1998. Three years later he was appointed adjunct professor in 1999. In 2003 he was appointed to the chair for gynecology and obstetrics (focus on gynecology) at the University of Regensburg and took over the associated management of the clinic for gynecology and obstetrics at the Caritas hospital St. Josef Regensburg .

Olaf Ortmann is a member of many medical societies and co-editor of several specialist journals.
He is the managing director of the German Academy for Gynecology and Obstetrics (DAGG) of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics .
From 2014 to 2015 Ortmann was 1st Chairman of the Bavarian Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology .
In 2018 he was elected President of the German Cancer Society .
