Oleander is a post-grunge band from Sacramento , California . The band name is derived from the poisonous wildflower oleander , which grows heavily on the highways in northern California.

history

The band was formed in the mid-1990s by Fred Nelson Jr. ( drums ), Doug Eldridge ( bass ), Ric Ivanisevich ( guitar ) and Thomas Flowers ( vocals , guitar).

Her debut was the EP Oleander which was released in 1996 on Fine Records . This was followed in 1997 with the first album entitled Shrinking the Blob . The song Down When I'm Loaded became a regional hit and Oleander got a contract with Universal Records .

During this time, tour drummer Jonathan Mover was called into the studios to record February Son to play as well as at the tour's opening concert. Nelson later joined the tour, but later left the band and was replaced by Scott Devours.

The album February Son was their major label debut in 1999, which includes the hit singles Why I'm Here and I Walk Alone .

This was followed by the third album Unwind in 2001, on which the hits Are You There? and halo are. The song Champion was dedicated to the victims of the fire brigade who died in the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 in New York City .

After the EP Runaway Train , the band switched from Universal Records to Sanctuary Records , where their fourth album Joyride was released in 2003 .

In November 2003, drummer Devours announced that he was leaving the band to join the band Ima Robot . The separation was amicable.
