Olga Alexandrowna Girja ( Russian Ольга Александровна Гиря ; born June 4, 1991 in Langepas ) is a Russian chess player and since 2009 the women's grandmaster (WGM).

Olga Girja was first at the international tournament 2005 in Salekhard , she won all 9 games. She repeated this result (9 points from 9 games) in 2007 at the U16 girls' championship in Russia . In 2009 Girja won the European youth championship in Fermo and the youth world championship in Kemer in the age group U18 women. She achieved further top placings at youth world and European championships with second places at the European youth championships U18 women in Herceg Novi 2008, at the youth world championships U16 women in Kemer 2007 and at the junior world championships U20 women in Chotowa 2010 and Madras 2011 and a third place in the world championship U18 female in Vung Tau 2008. In August 2019 Girja won the Russian women's championship .

She met the norms for the title of grandmaster in April 2008 at the Russian women's team championship in Dagomys and at the Moscow Open in February 2008 and February 2009. With her highest rating of 2493 in July 2014, she finished 18th in the world ranking of women.

National team

Girja first took part in a 2010 Chess Olympiad with the second Russian women's team. In 2014 she won the Women's Chess Olympiad. She had already played with the Russian women's team in 2013 at the World Team Championship and the European Team Championship . At the World Women's Team Championship in Astana in 2013 she achieved the best individual result of all reserve players and took third place with the team, and at the 2013 European Women's Team Championship in Warsaw she came second with the team.

Since the 2011/12 season, Olga Girja has played in the German Women's Chess League for the team of SC Bad Königshofen , with which she won the championship in 2014 and 2019 . In the Chinese team championship she played for Zhejiang Yinzhou in 2012 and for Hangzhou since 2015 . She won the Russian women's team championship in 2011 with SchSM-RGSU Moscow , she also played for Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk . Girja took part in the women's European Club Cup with SchSM-RGSU Moscow and Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk , winning three bronze medals with the team (2012 to 2014) and one silver (2013 on the fourth board) and one in the individual ranking Bronze medal (2012 on the second board).
