Langepas ( Russian Лангепас ) is a city in West Siberia , in the Khanty and Mansi Autonomous Okrug / Ugra ( Russia ) with 41,670 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located in the West Siberian lowlands north of the Ob , on its Kajukowskaja river arm (протока Каюковская), about 15 km from the main arm. The city is roughly halfway between Surgut and Nizhnevartovsk . The climate is continental.

The town forms a separate urban district, the territory of the Rajons enclosed Nizhnevartovsk.

Langepas is located on the Surgut - Nizhnevartovsk railway line, which opened in 1979 (station name Langepassowski, Russian Лангепасовский).

history

Langepas was established in 1980 as an oil workers' settlement Langepassowski and received city rights on August 15, 1985. The name was given after the name of an estuary of the Watinski Jogan in the Ob, Lange-Pas (also in the spelling Langepas ), the chantic words for squirrel and river arm .

Culture and sights

Since 1996 there is a small ethnographic museum in the city, which is dedicated to the culture of the indigenous people of the Khanty .

economy

Langepas is a center of the petroleum industry . In the city is the headquarters of Langepasneftegaz (Лангепаснефтегаз), one of the three founding companies of the largest Russian oil company Lukoil .
