Igrim ( Russian Игрим ) is an urban-type settlement in the West Siberian Khanty and Mansi Autonomous Okrug / Ugra ( Russia ) with 8,775 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is located in the West Siberian lowlands , about 342 kilometers as the crow flies northwest of the administrative center of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug . The Berjosowo district center is located about 88 kilometers south of Igrim.

The place is on the right bank of the Northern Soswa , a left tributary of the Ob . Immediately at the settlement, the Little Soswa flows into the Northern Soswa .

As to the administrative division, Igrim belongs to the Berjosowski rajon . In addition, it is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name Gorodskoje posselenije Igrim ( Городское поселение Игрим ), which in addition to Igrim the settlement Wansetur ( Ванзетур ) and the villages Anejewa ( Анеева ) and Novinskaya ( Новинская ) belong.

history

There is only unsecured information about the origin of the place. References to settlements on the banks of the Northern Soswa can be found in documents from the 16th and 17th centuries. In sources from the 18th century both settled are Jurgutschesker Samoyed ( Югуческие Самояди , possibly derived from the toponym Jugrim / Югрим later Igrim called) and from Jurgrimsker yurts ( юрты Югримские , also in the 19th century Igrimsker yurts / Игрюмские юрты ) two versts reported away from the mouth of the Little Soswa River. The etymology of the name Jugrim / Igrim is difficult to derive from today's Mansi language . The word Jagr ( ягр ) comes from the Finno-Ugric language area ( Finnish : järvi , Sami : jāvvʹr , mari : jer ) and means lake . It can also be found in geographical names within the Arkhangelsk and Vologda Oblasts and may have come from tribes who settled in this area before the Mansi.

Most of the local history researchers date the development of today's place to the year 1902, in which the merchant Beskilzew founded a settlement called Igrim-Lugowoi ( Игрим-Луговой , also Igrim-Syrjanski / Игрим-Зырянский ) on the left bank of the Northern Sosva .

The first settlers lived mainly from fishing. In 1925 a fishing cooperative was founded in Igrim-Lugowoi . From 1931 the settlement Igrim-Lednik ( Игрим-Ледник ) was built on the right bank of the river , in which kulaks lived who were deported from different regions of the Soviet Union. A fish factory was built in Igrim-Lednik , which sold its products nationwide. Also on the right bank of the river, southeast of Igrim-Lednik , the settlement Igrim-Gorni ( Игрим-Горный ) was built on a hill. In the course of a flood in 1941, the Igrim-Lugowoi settlement was relocated to Igrim-Gorni . Igrim-Lednik was also given up after repeated floods in the late 1950s and the fish factory in Igrim-Gorni was rebuilt.

In 1953, several large natural gas deposits were discovered in Beryozovo Raion . In 1964 the gas production company Igrimgas ( Игримгаз ) was founded. The exploitation of the North Igrim natural gas deposit ( Северо-Игримское месторождение ) began in 1966. A few years later, the South Igrim deposit ( Южно-Игримское месеноро ) was developed. A gas pipeline was built to Punga and later extended to Serow . With the settlement of the natural gas industry, the settlement grew strongly.

In 1959 the village soviet Anejewski , to which Igrim belonged since 1932, was renamed Dorfsovjet Igrimski ( Игримский сельсовет ). Five years later, on December 3, 1964, Igrim received urban-type settlement status.
