The settlement is located in the West Siberian lowlands , about 274 kilometers as the crow flies west of the administrative center of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug . The Soviet district center is located about 27 kilometers southwest of Zelenoborsk.

history

The emergence of the settlement is closely linked to the developing timber industry. In 1962, the Sosvinsky Forestry Enterprise ( Сосьвинский леспромхоз ) began operating in the area where it is today, and two years later it was renamed the Zelenoborsky Forestry Enterprise ( Зеленоборский леспромхоз ). The company became a local education company and a rapidly growing work settlement was created for the local workers. The construction of a branched forest railway network ensured the transport of wood from the surrounding forests.

On October 8, 1968, Zelenoborsk received urban-type settlement status. A year later, the settlement gained over the completed railway ivdel - Priobye connection to the Russian railway network.

Until the early 1990s, Zelenoborsk grew with the expanding forestry business. With the fall of the Soviet Union and the introduction of the market economy, sales decreased significantly.
