Sowetski ( Russian Советский ) is a city in Western Siberia , in the Khanty and Mansi Autonomous Okrug / Ugra ( Russia ) with 26,495 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city of Sovetsky is located in the west of the Khanty and Mansi Autonomous Okrug, between the Ob River and the Urals in the West Siberian lowlands . The climate is continental.

Sowetski is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .

The city lies on the railway line Iwdel - Priobje , which was opened in 1969 ; the name of the station is Verkhnekondinskaja (Верхнекондинская). A branch to Agirisch branches off here .

There is an airport four kilometers south of the city.

history

The place and a forestry enterprise were established in 1963 when the Iwdel - Priobje railway was built and immediately received the status of an urban-type settlement . In 1997 the settlement was granted city rights.

Culture and sights

A Rajon Museum and Exhibition Center has existed in Sowetski since 1985, focusing on archeology, ethnography and the modern history of the area.

Economy and Infrastructure

The main industries are oil production , mainly operated by the company Lukoil belonging Uraineftegas (Урайнефтегаз) and forestry (Советсклес, Sowetskles ).

A 350 meter high transmission mast for VHF and TV has been located near Sowetski since 1986.
