Olga Wisinger-Florian (born November 1, 1844 in Vienna ; † February 27, 1926 in Grafenegg ) was an Austrian painter of impressionism . Her work consists of landscape and flower pictures. In her youth, Wisinger-Florian learned the piano under Julius Epstein and worked as a concert pianist for a few years before she had to break off this career in 1874 because of health problems with one hand. Then she began to be active as a painter and studied as such with Melchior Fritsch and from 1879 with August Schaeffer von Wienwald .

Life

In 1880 she became a student of Emil Jakob Schindler , with whom she went on several study trips and who strongly influenced her in his way of depicting landscapes, mood impressionism. The following year, the painter's first solo exhibition took place in the Vienna Künstlerhaus , and later pictures of her were exhibited several times in the Vienna Secession . Internationally they made the world exhibitions in Paris and Chicago. After Wisinger-Florian broke away from Schindler in 1884, her painting became more realistic. Later, the painter, who was also involved in the bourgeois women's and peace movement, used brighter colors for her pictures, reminiscent of Expressionism .

Wisinger-Florian's works have been bought by prominent figures, including Franz Joseph I , and she herself has been honored with several awards (including the Great Golden State Medal in 1905).

After her death, Olga Wisinger-Florian was buried in an honorary grave in Vienna's central cemetery (group 21, row G1, no. 26).

In 2019, Olga-Wisinger-Florian-Platz in Vienna- Wieden (4th district) was named after her.
