Olivier Kaisen (born April 30, 1983 in Namur ) is a former Belgian cyclist .

Athletic career

Olivier Kaisen was part of the Quick Step-Davitamon farm team in 2003 , where he was the Belgian time trial champion in the U23 class. In 2004 he won the Chrono des Herbiers in the U23 class, in which he was second in the juniors in 2001. For the 2005 season he received a contract with the French professional Continental Team R.AGT Semences . From 2006 Kaisen drove for the Belgian UCI ProTeam Davitamon-Lotto or one of the successor teams.

At the Vuelta a España 2006 Kaisen took part in his first "Grand Tour" and finished the race in 110th place. He contested the Vuelta five more times. In 2012 he couldn't finish the race. He started four times at the Giro d'Italia , each time reaching the finish. His greatest success was winning the one-day race Grote Prijs Gerrie Knetemann in 2007.

On February 11, 2014, Kaisen announced that he would end his career because of heart problems. As early as November 2013, he was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat during routine examinations. After he fell ill on the Tour Down Under , he had to undergo further examinations, which revealed that he had to give up professional cycling.

Personal

Kaisen completed an apprenticeship as an accountant. His first cycling club was VC de l`Orne Blanmont.
