The Olym ( Russian Олы́м ) is a right tributary of the Bystraja Sosna in the Russian oblasts of Kursk , Lipetsk , Orjol and Voronezh .
The Olympus rises on the Central Russian Plate in the Kursk Oblast. From there it flows mainly in a northerly direction. For a short time it forms the border with Voronezh Oblast. It flows on through the Kursk Oblast into the Lipetsk Oblast. In the lower reaches, the Olym runs for several kilometers along the border with Oryol Oblast. Finally he reaches the Bystraja Sosna, a tributary of the Don .
The Olym has a length of 151 km. It drains an area of 3090 km². The river is mainly fed by the snowmelt . 63 km above the mouth, the mean discharge is 6.5 m³ / s. Maximum outflows of 674 m³ / s and the lowest outflows of 0.63 m³ / s have already been measured. The river is ice-covered between November and March / April.
