Fred Schule and Frank Castleman, who had won their heats in 16.2 s each, went into this final as favorites. School started badly, but fought its way forward. Castleman hit a hurdle and stumbled. As a result, he lost his rhythm and finished fourth. Fred Schule became Olympic champion by a clear margin over Thaddeus Shideler and third-placed Lesley Ashburner.
At Alvin Kraenzleins Olympic record of 15.4 sec from the year 1900 Fred school did not manage to by far.
