The men's 100 meter freestyle swimming competition at the 1908 Olympic Games in London was held from July 17 to 20, 1908. It was the first time in Olympic history that people had swum in a swimming pool; before that, the competitions always took place in open water. The swimming pool was built inside the White City Stadium . Olympic champion was Charles Daniels from the United States with a new world record time of 1: 05.6 minutes. Zoltán von Halmay from Hungary won silver and the Swede Harald Julin won bronze .
