The sailing regatta with the 8 m class at the 1936 Summer Olympics took place from August 4 to 12, 1936. The venue was the Olympiahafen Düsternbrook in the Kiel Fjord . The regatta was an open class, so both men and women were allowed to participate. Beryl Preston from Great Britain and Antonia Churchill from the United States were the only two women to take part in this competition.

The Italians with helmsman Giovanni Reggio and his crew consisting of: Bruno Bianchi , Luigi De Manincor , Domenico Mordini , Enrico Poggi , Luigi Poggi became Olympic champions .

Since the Norwegian and the German boats both had 53 points after seven races, the two boats had a jump-off for second place. The Norwegian crew was able to decide this in their favor and thus won the silver medal and the German crew was awarded the bronze medal.

External conditions

All races were scheduled for 10:30 a.m. The regatta course was in front of Schilksee .
