The Olympus E-500 is the third camera to be manufactured in accordance with the Four Thirds standard developed by Olympus and Kodak . It was launched in November 2005. This digital SLR camera has an 8 megapixel sensor. As it is compatible with the E-System developed by Olympus, a range of Zuiko lenses is available for the camera . The E-500 has a 2.5-inch monitor with 215,250 pixels and an ultrasonic dust filter ( Supersonic Wave Filter ) that uses ultrasound to remove dust particles from the image sensor.

Continuous shooting is possible in JPG format until the memory card is full. With the formats RAW and TIFF a maximum of 2.5 images / sec and up to 4 images in a row are achieved.

The camera has two memory card slots. While the first slot supports memory cards of the type CF I, CF II and IBM-Microdrive, the second slot can accommodate the xD-Picture-Cards developed by Olympus and Fuji . Data can be exchanged via both slots. The camera weighs 435 g.
