The E-300 from Olympus is a digital SLR camera with a resolution of 8.0 million pixels , which came in December 2004 on the market.

General

The dimensions of the splash-proof die-cast aluminum housing are 146.5 mm × 85 mm × 64 mm with a weight of approx. 580 g without batteries and CF card.

A special feature of this camera is the mirror that folds away to the side, as Olympus did without the classic pentaprism in favor of a Porro mirror viewfinder and was thus able to construct a particularly flat camera body.

After the E-1, the E-300 was the second camera from Olympus to be manufactured according to the Four Thirds (4/3) standard . The E-System is the summary of all digital SLR cameras from Olympus and their accessories.

Technical details

The light sensitivity can be adjusted from ISO 100 to 1,600, the shortest release time is 1 / 4,000 second. The images can be saved in the formats RAW with a color depth of 36 bit, JPEG with a color depth of 24 bit and TIFF . The camera enables the internal conversion of raw to jpeg files.

The high-speed and compact Zuiko lenses for the E-300 available from Olympus have not yet been equipped with an image stabilization system. Leica has offered such a lens since October 2006 .

Functions typical of modern SLR cameras such as bulb (long exposure), autofocus , automatic program control and manual exposure control are included in the range of functions. Mirror lock-up was made possible by a firmware update in March 2005. The E-300 has three auto focus areas that can be controlled manually and automatically. The E-300 can set the autofocus so that it automatically follows moving subjects, for example for animal or sports photography.

Another practical feature is the E-300's automatic sensor cleaning. Other companies like Canon have adopted this technology in their current models. This eliminates stains on the photo and expensive cleaning of the sensor.
