Omar Gaber ( Arabic عمر جابر, DMG ʿUmar Ǧābir ; * January 30, 1992 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian soccer player who has been under contract with Pyramids FC in his home country since July 2018 .

Career

Gaber played at al Zamalek SC in his youth career . In July 2010 he switched to the 1st team and was used 114 times. With Zamalek he was runner-up several times and won the Egyptian Cup . However, he was only used up to half of his last three seasons at Zamalek and therefore does not have a very large share in the runner-up titles. In the cup, however, he was mostly used in the last game. On May 10, 2016, FC Basel announced the signing of Gaber. Under coach Urs Fischer , Gaber won the championship title with FCB at the end of the 2016/17 championship . For the club it was the 8th title in a row and the 20th title in the club's history. They also won the cup competition on May 25, 2017 with three to zero against Sion and thus the double . In 2018 it was awarded to the American first division club Los Angeles FC . There he made seven league games. In July he was signed by the LAFC . Just one day after the permanent transfer to the LAFC , Pyramids FC , a first division club from Egypt, bought Gaber for around one million euros. In his home country he made it into the league there. He made 43 league games and one goal for the club until the Corona crisis .

National team

Gaber made his debut for the Egyptian U-20s on April 17, 2011 in a 2-0 win over Lesotho's U-20s. He reached the quarter-finals with Egypt in the 2012 Olympic football tournament in Great Britain. He made his debut for the Egyptian national football team on September 3, 2011 in the 1: 2 defeat in the qualifier for the Africa Cup against Sierra Leone . He was part of the Egyptian squad at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, in which Egypt was the last in Group A to be eliminated in the group stage after losing to Russia , Uruguay and Saudi Arabia . However, he was not used.
