Omonville-la-Rogue is a village and a former French commune with 492 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Manche department in the Normandy region . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Cherbourg and the Canton of La Hague .
With effect from January 1, 2017, the previous municipality of Omonville-la-Rogue was merged with the other 18 municipalities of the former Communauté de communes de la Hague to form a commune nouvelle called La Hague and has the status of a commune in the new municipality déléguée . The administrative headquarters are in Beaumont-Hague.
geography
Omonville-la-Rogue is on the Cotentin Peninsula in the La Hague countryside . The coast stretches between the Baie de Quervière and the Pointe Jardeheu . Adjacent parishes were Digulleville , Éculleville and Beaumont-Hague .
Toponymy
Omonville is derived from the French ending -ville and from the Scandinavian name Asmundr or Osmundr . -la-rogue refers to the rogue family .
history
In 1664 a study commission that wanted to create a naval port praised the location of Omonville; this commission had already given up Cherbourg . Vauban later also praised Omonville as the ideal location for a port facility, but placed Cherbourg in the foreground. See Cherbourg roadstead .
The criminal case concerning the car mechanic Lucien Jeanne was decided by the jury of the department of Manche from 19 to 30 June 1936 in Coutances .
Attractions
- Saint-Jean-Baptiste Gothic church (from the second half of the 13th century) renovated in the 18th century. On June 9, 1971, it was added to the list of historical monuments.

- Granite, which is very popular in La Hague , is extracted from the Omonville quarry .
- Tourp farm; now it is operated by the Communauté de communes de la Hague for tourism purposes.

- In 1978 Tess was shot by Roman Polanski in Omonville (Heiden von Omonville and Manor vom Tourp).
