Oni Wytars
The Oni Wytars Ensemble was founded in 1983 by Marco Ambrosini and Peter Rabanser to look for new ways in the interpretation of early music . The musicians wanted to build a bridge between Orient and Occident and to create a synthesis of the different elements and traditions that have influenced and enriched the musical culture in East and West for centuries.
The music
In concerts, at international music festivals and with their CD productions, the instrumentalists and singers, who come from a wide variety of cultures, present music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance as well as traditional music from Eastern Europe and the Arab world. The main focus of the ensemble is on researching the connections and mutual influences between art and popular music from both Christian and Islamic Mediterranean countries in the 12th to 16th centuries. The ensemble tries an unusual way of interpreting early music. A virtuoso way of playing combined with idiosyncratic arrangements create a completely new sound.
Instruments
Their instruments range from reconstructions of long-forgotten instruments from the European Middle Ages and the Renaissance to those that still have their place in traditional and classical Arabic music today: Fidel , Rebec , Pochette , Schlüsselfidel , Vihuela d'arco , Oud , Tambura , Hurdy-gurdy , harp , reed and recorders , bagpipes , kaval , chalumeau , Ney , Davul , Zarb , Darabuka , Bendir , Riqq , Tammorra etc. a.
