The buck's hackle ( Ononis arvensis ), also known as field hackney , belongs to the family of butterflies and is a deciduous subshrub (woody chamaephyte). It forms a strong pleiocormous rhizome . Its flowers are mostly pollinated by bees . The species becomes, together with the thorny restoration ( Ononis spinosa ) and the creeping restoration ( Ononis repens ), of the species Ononis spinosa agg. summarized.

Occurrence

The buck's hake occurs in the submeridional and temperate climates of Europe and West Asia from the flat to the hill country. Their main occurrence is in dry and semi- arid grasslands . These are mostly characterized by the continental climate . It is the characteristic species of the Association of the Continental Semi-Arid Grasslands, Cirsio-Brachypodion. Their exact distribution in Germany has not been sufficiently clarified. In Thuringia, Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein it is considered lost. However, it is not on the red list of vascular plants, as it has probably not yet established itself in Germany. In Austria the species is threatened with extinction.

Identifying features

The mostly upright, almost always thornless red-legged Restharrow is about 30 to 60 cm tall and has a strong odor. The upper side of the stem is covered with protruding, approximately 2 mm long glandular hairs and normal hair. The leaves are also glandular, appear somewhat greasy and are usually pointed at the front. The single flowers are in dense, spike-shaped, terminal clusters , with one or three axillary single flowers can occur. The calyx is covered with glandular hairs . The crown is pink in color, often has purple stripes and is rarely white. The pods never grow larger than the calyx after flowering. The common buck-hackle blooms from June to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 32.
