The Delphi Ragwurz ( Ophrys delphinensis ) is a kind of the genus Ragwurzen ( Ophrys ) in the family of the Orchid Family (Orchidaceae).
description
This herbaceous perennial plant reaches heights of between 20 and 40 cm. The basal leaves are ovate to lanceolate.
The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic . The sepals are colored pink, while the petals appear dark red. The three-lobed lip is colored maroon. The convexly arched middle lobe has short hairs on the edge and a three-toothed appendage in front. The downwardly directed side lobes, which have an approximately 2 mm high hump at the base, are densely covered with long light hairs. The mark can appear as two isolated or connected points, it is purple with a light border.
The flowering period extends from April to May.
Location and distribution
This species prefers pine forests , former cultivated land , garrigues and grasslands . In the mountains they can be found up to a height of 1100 m . The distribution area extends over the northern Peloponnese , especially there are occurrences in Achaia and Corinth . In central Greece this orchid can be found in Aetolia , Fokis , Boeotia , Attica , Fthiotis and Evia .
