The Orbiel is a river in France that runs in the Occitania region . It rises in the Tarn département under the name Rieu Nègre in the Montagne Noire , in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park , on the municipal border between Mazamet and Labruguière . After around one kilometer, it changes to the Aude department , initially draining to the south, later to the southeast and, after a total of 41 kilometers, flows into the Aude as a left tributary on the western outskirts of Trèbes .

Just before the mouth, the Orbiel crosses under the Canal du Midi, which runs parallel to the Aude, and is also used for its endowment via a supply canal if necessary.
