Orlowka ( Russian Орловка ) is an urban-type settlement in the Kemin district of the Kyrgyz region of Chüi . In 2009 there were 6,260 inhabitants in Orlovka.

location

Orlovka is located in northern Kyrgyzstan, near the border with Kazakhstan at an altitude of 1080 meters. The Kyrgyz capital Bishkek is located about 70 kilometers west of Orlowka. Tokmok , the former administrative center of the Chüi region, is located in the north-west of Orlovka .

Infrastructure

With the highway A365 one of the main links between Bishkek and the further east runs Issyk Kul north of Orlovka. The city has a post office , a court of law , a general medicine center , a kindergarten , several secondary schools and a primary school .

Sports

The city has a large sports complex, which is divided into eight departments for different sports. Athletes from Orlovka have already achieved successes, especially in wrestling . Orlowka also has a stadium and a small artificial turf football field .

Population development

During the times of the Soviet Union , Orlovka had a significant population growth, so that the population reached its highest level of 12,080 in the last census before the collapse of the Soviet Union . At the last census in March 2009, 6,260 people lived in Orlowka, compared to 1989 the population has decreased by around 48.2%. For the 2010s, estimates have shown a stabilization of the population at just over 6,000.

economy

An important factor for Orlovka's economy is the nearby Orlovka ski area . This is located two kilometers south of the city and has a total of 5 kilometers of slopes. The ski area is at an altitude of 1,200 to 1,650 m. ü. M. and is equipped with five lifts, two piste machines and numerous snow cannons. Orlowka also has the first snowboard halfpipe in Kyrgyzstan. The ski area is primarily a popular local recreation area for the residents of Bishkek and is visited by 30,000 skiers and snowboarders every year.

Agriculture is also an important livelihood for the people of Orlovka. The agricultural area in and around Orlowka is 11,529 hectares. Agriculture focuses on the cultivation of wheat , barley , maize , sugar beet and safflower . The livestock industry is also represented in the region, and the number of cattle and sheep has developed dynamically in recent years.
