Place of power

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a place of power (including power place , place of power or magical place called) a place is called, where a mostly positive (often negative) psychological impact in terms of calming , strengthening and expansion of consciousness is attributed. Places of power are predominantly referred to as geographic locations which, according to esoteric ideas, have a special earth radiation . Depending on the esoteric orientation, geomantic , magical , mythical or Feng Shui "energies" are accepted. In some forms of psychotherapy , imaginations of places of power are used in relaxation exercises to deepen relaxation . Sometimes the term is also used for places that are subjectively experienced as calming, relaxing or edifying . The energies claimed in certain geographical locations cannot be scientifically proven.

Geographic power places

According to widespread esoteric ideas, all places of worship from pre-Christian times and sacred buildings that are built over places of worship are special geomantic places of power. It is assumed that the people of the early days had a feeling for densities or concentrations of “universal life energy” in certain places in the cosmos or on earth.

Often, striking geographic locations such as springs, river banks, gorges, mountain peaks, caves, rocks, stones, old trees and clearings, especially when myths and legends surround them, are considered places of power.

According to esoteric ideas, unknown places of power can be found using intuition or radiesthesia and their strengths can be “measured” in Bovis units by pendulum . There are also ideas among representatives of geomantic esotericism that visitors to the place of power withdraw energy from the place of power and that it takes a period of time until the initial energetic state is restored at the place.

The most famous places, often referred to as places of power, include Uluru or Ayers Rock (Australia), Stonehenge (Great Britain), the pyramids (Egypt), the Nazca Lines (Peru) or the Externsteine (Germany).

Reference to “Magical Places” in the city and the district of Osnabrück near the Darpvenne Iron Age House

In tourism , attempts are made to generate receptive customers by traveling to places of spiritual and esoteric interest. Accordingly, places of "rest, inspiration, consolation and strength" are advertised as attractions for visitors. In recent years “nature-power-paths”, “power paths” or routes with “magical places” have been created, on which a large number of “power places” are marked in a dense space.

Time and again, there are conflicts between the interests of modern tourists and the religious feelings of the indigenous people in places that are considered magical and sacred places for the indigenous people. The Anangu at Uluru have repeatedly threatened since 2007 to close the area to tourists for inappropriate behavior. Native Americans in North America are successfully resisting tourist activities at their holy sites, such as Devils Tower in Wyoming and Cave Rock in Nevada .

Churches and monasteries

Within the churches , ecclesiastical buildings are sometimes referred to as “places of power”, but they have little to do with esoteric geographical places of power, but are intended as places where spiritual strengthening is to take place through devotion or worship .

Inner place of power

In psychotherapy , especially in psychological pain therapy , places of strength are used in relaxation exercises or in fantasy journeys to deepen states of relaxation and to direct attention . The patient is instructed to imagine a place from his memory where he felt particularly comfortable or strengthened. Imaginations of places of power also play a role in coping with stress and in terminal care .
