Oskar Schultze

Oskar Max Sigismund Schultze (born August 10, 1859 in Bonn , † June 30, 1920 in Würzburg ) was a German anatomist .

Life

Schultze came from a family of scholars and officials. His father Max Johann Sigismund Schultze (1825–1874) was also an anatomist and zoologist , his grandfather Karl August Sigismund Schultze (1795–1877) professor of anatomy and physiology in Freiburg and from 1830 in Greifswald , his uncles Bernhard Sigmund Schultze (1827–1919 ), Gynecologist and professor at the University of Jena from 1858 to 1903 , and August Sigismund Schultze (1833–1918), lawyer and professor at the University of Strasbourg.

Oskar Schultze studied medicine at the Universities of Bonn , Jena and Berlin . During his studies he became a member of the Alemannia Bonn fraternity in 1879 . In 1883 he received his doctorate under Franz von Leydig in Bonn . From 1884 to 1891 he worked as a prosector at the University of Würzburg under Albert von Kölliker , initially in the comparative anatomical department and later in the anatomical department. In 1887 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .

In 1889 he completed his habilitation in Würzburg and in 1891 was appointed associate professor with a teaching position for topographical anatomy. In 1911 he was appointed full professor of anatomy in the same position .

Oskar Schultze died in Würzburg in 1920.
