history

In the Duchy of Pomerania-Stettin , a first district division was made under Duke Philip II , who ruled from 1606 to 1618. Initially, eleven districts were planned, of which the eleventh district should encompass the estates of the most important noble families, the so-called castle and castle-settled families. In administrative practice, areas were required for the collection of taxes, the so-called contributions . These were initially referred to as “quarters” or “districts”, then from around 1690 as districts. Here, however, the eleventh district, in which several noble families were summarized, turned out to be too large.

Smaller units were created in which the estates of only one or two noble families were combined, the so-called family circles. In this move, the area of the noble families from the Osten and Blücher to the Osten and Blücherschen district was combined.

The two families von der Osten and Blücher were considered to have been seated in a castle, since they were both city lords of the town of Plathe , where each family owned a castle. Matthias Conrad von der Osten (1691–1748), secret finance councilor and chief president of the Kurmärkischen war and domain chamber in Berlin, succeeded in the 1730s in acquiring Blücher's share of Plathe. The name Ostenscher Kreis took the place of the name Osten- and Blücherscher Kreis.

At the end of 1817, the Ostensche Kreis was dissolved as part of a district reform in Pomerania. The largest part of the district area came to the newly formed Regenwalde district .
