Location of Ostrittrum in Lower Saxony

Ostrittrum is a district of the community Dötlingen in the district of Oldenburg in Lower Saxony . Ostrittrum is located in the far north-west of Dötlingen and has 289 inhabitants.

Ostrittrum is located in the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park on the Hunte , which separates it from the neighboring Westernrittrum . The unspoilt Poggenpohlsmoor (WE 215 in the list of nature reserves in Lower Saxony ) is located in the southwestern part of Ostrittrum . The Low German word Poggenpohl means frog hole.

The Ostrittrum wildlife and leisure park was founded in 1976 and has been family-owned ever since. The target group of the barrier-free park are mainly families with children.

The Ostrittrumer watermill was probably first built in the 15th century, burned down several times and was rebuilt again and again, most likely in 1848. It has been used for cultural purposes by the “Möhlenvereen Ostrittrum” since the restoration was completed in 1998.

Ostrittrum was first mentioned on June 11, 1069 as "Rithram": On June 11, 1069, Adalbert , Archbishop of Hamburg, asked Gisela, Capitularin in Bassum Monastery , for the goods she had given in Aldinbuggin (Altenbrücken) and Staphost (punishment host ) leave the tithes of the villages Rithram (Rittrum) and Benninhusin (Benninhusen).

The place name "Ostrittrum" comes from the 18th / 19th. Century, it developed from the official usage, earlier the place name was Rithram (1069), Riterem (1273/78), Reteren, Reerem, Rithtrein (1294), Riterem (1398), Ritterme (1433), Ryttrem (1476), Rittrum (1533). In the 13th century, the Counts of Oldenburg and Counts of Bruchhausen owned two farms in Eastern Rite. From 1342 to 1428 Rittrum was part of the parish of Hatten . In the 15th century Rittrum was part of the parish of Dötlingen.
