The states of East Timor and Papua New Guinea maintain friendly relations .
history
East Timor and Papua New Guinea established diplomatic relations on July 22, 2002, at the end of an ACP group conference in Fiji .
Although East Timor is part of Asia , it also has ethnic groups that speak Papuan languages, which is why it also maintains relationships with the Melanesian and Pacific world. As an observer, East Timor participated in the third ACP Summit in July 2002 and, since August 2002, in the annual meetings of the heads of state and government of the Pacific Islands Forum . In 2016, the country joined the Pacific Islands Development Forum . East Timor has had observer status with the Melanesian Spearhead Group since 2010 .
East Timor and Papua New Guinea are both members of the g7 + countries , in which East Timor is a leader.
In 2019 Richard Maru , Papua New Guinea's Minister of National Planning and Monitoring, visited East Timor.
diplomacy
Papua New Guinea's ambassador to Jakarta , Indonesia, is also responsible for East Timor.
East Timor is represented in Port Moresby by its Honorary Consul Chris Durman.

For 2018, the East Timor Statistics Office does not indicate any trade relations between East Timor and Papua New Guinea.
