Otmar Emerling

Otmar Josef Emerling (born August 10, 1924 in Eberweis ; † June 23, 2015 ) was an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). From 1964 to 1980 he was district chairman of the 21st Viennese district of Floridsdorf and from 1980 to 1983 a member of the Vienna State Parliament and member of the Vienna City Council .

Life

After elementary school, Otmar Emerling attended the secondary school in Waidhofen an der Thaya . After graduating from high school in 1942, he was called up for the Reich Labor Service and the Wehrmacht . Towards the end of the Second World War he was taken prisoner of war , from which he returned to Vienna in 1951. He then became a career advisor at the employment office, and from 1963 he was a clerk for vocational rehabilitation at the Lower Austria regional employment office .

From 1959 he was a member of the district council in the Viennese district of Floridsdorf , where he was elected district chairman on April 30, 1964 as the successor to Rudolf Hitzinger . Among other things, he initiated the construction of a retirement home in Leopoldau during his term of office (built 1970 to 1972, expanded 1976/1977). At the end of January 1980 he was succeeded by Kurt Landsmann as district chairman, Otmar Emerling took over his mandate in the Vienna state parliament and local council on February 1, 1980 in the 12th electoral term . After the parliamentary and municipal council elections in Vienna in 1983 , Emerling resigned from the state parliament on May 27, 1983.

Emerling died in June 2015 at the age of 90 and was buried at the Stammersdorfer Zentralfriedhof . In 2018 the Otmar-Emerling-Platz in Stammersdorf was named after him.
