The Ottawa River or Ottawa Creek is a 15 miles long tributary of Lake Erie in the northwest of the US state Ohio and belongs to the river system of the Saint Lawrence River . It drains an area close to the Ohio- Michigan state line on the northern and eastern outskirts of the city of Toledo and flows into Lake Erie at Toledo Harbor.

The Ottawa River is formed by the confluence of North Tenmile Creek and Tenmile Creek in the city of Sylvania . The approximately 12 km long North Tenmile Creek rises in Monroe County in Michigan and flows south, while the approximately 30 km long Tenmile Creek flows from west to east and has its source in Fulton County , Ohio. After the confluence, the Ottawa River turns southeast into western Toledo, crosses the Ottawa Hills district, then turns northeast parallel to the Maumee River and flows into Lake Erie 3 km north of the Maumee River in Toledo Harbor.

In 2000 a report was published on the results of the examination of the river water in the lower section of the river. Accordingly, a high concentration of heavy metals was found. The main reasons identified were sewage from landfills and canals, as well as the slow flow of the Ottawa River. The city of Toledo is making significant efforts to improve the water quality of the river and its tributaries. To restore the natural course of the river, a dam was dismantled in the Ottawa Hills in 2007.
