Otto Ditscher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto Ditscher (born October 29, 1903 in Neuhofen (Palatinate) ; † November 13, 1987 there ) was a German painter and member of the artists' association " Palatinate Secession ".

Life

Otto Ditscher completed a craft painter training. After 1910 he met the painter Heinz Schifferdecker (1889–1924), who introduced him to the artistic style discussion at that time in the fin de siècle . Otto Ditscher then studied from 1922 to 1925 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Adolf Schinnerer , Max Doerner and Max Mayrshofer .

The artist's work shows classic themes such as still lifes , portraits and landscapes as well as transposing the motifs into abstract forms, informal paintings and collages . He knew how to unmistakably characterize the atmosphere of the cosmopolitan cities of Venice , Paris and New York as well as the familiar local Rhine plain . In addition, there are always illustrations of masterpieces of German poetry, which he has compiled and edited as anthologies with the help of his wife Johanna Ditscher. For this reason, an art prize for book illustration has been awarded by the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis under the name of this artist since 1978 , which has also been awarded every four years since 1990 for musical compositions that are particularly suitable for a performance by schoolchildren.

Otto Ditscher had developed a particularly close relationship with the region in which he was born and with which his work is rooted.

He was awarded the Max Slevogt Medal by the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .
