Otto Emersleben (mathematician)
Otto Emersleben (born June 17, 1898 in Magdeburg , † August 10, 1975 in Greifswald ) was a German mathematician , physicist and university professor .
Life
Emersleben studied mathematics , physics and chemistry in Göttingen . In 1922 he was there with a thesis on the relationship between crystal lattice potentials and zeta functions for Dr. phil. PhD . From 1950 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics of the German Academy of Sciences . In 1950 he completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Berlin-Charlottenburg . He then worked there as a private lecturer . In 1953 he was appointed professor for applied mathematics and director of the institute of the same name at the University of Greifswald . He worked there until his retirement in 1963.
Emersleben dealt with problems of electrostatics in crystal lattices, oscillations in capacitor circuits , strength theory , fluid mechanics , wireless communication technology , Epstein's and Riemann's zeta functions and the Madelung constants . He designed a measuring instrument for direct and alternating current in self-construction and dealt with applications of mathematics in the macromolecular chemistry of fiber materials.
