Otto Frehner

Otto Frehner (born April 11, 1887 in Urnäsch , † April 30, 1973 in Herisau ; resident in Herisau) was a Swiss educator , historian , Romance studies and German studies from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Otto Frehner was a son of Daniel Otto Frehner, timber merchant , and Maria Louise Hefti. He married Helene Amrein von Eich . The marriage was divorced in 1921. He obtained his Matura certificate in St. Gallen . From 1908 to 1916 he studied history , French and German in Lausanne and Zurich . In 1919 he wrote a doctorate with the title The Swiss German Alpine Language . He worked as a vicar at the Kreuzlingen teacher training college , at the Schiers Evangelical College and from 1917 to 1919 at the Kaiserstuhl district school . From 1919 to 1930 he worked as a French teacher at the secondary school in Herisau.

His research on Appenzell students at Swiss universities remained unfinished. He was involved in cultural ventures in Herisau (theater, historical museum, casino company ). He published numerous publications in the Häädler calendar and on the Appenzell alpine economy . The Schwägalp Alpine Book was published in 1925 . In 1934 and 1934 he published The Foundation of the University of Zurich in the Spiegel of the Appenzeller Zeitung 1828-1833 .
