Otto Heinrich Lange

Otto Heinrich Lange (* 17th April 1821 in Bremervörde ; † 17th April 1887 in Hannover ) was a German pianist , choir director , composer and publisher of several folk songs - Collections . Lange's work is one of the prerequisites for founding the Lower Saxony Church Choir Association .

Born at the time of the Kingdom of Hanover as the paternal uncle of the later women's rights activist Helene Lange , Otto Heinrich Lange completed his musical training first in Leipzig , then also in the then royal seat of Hanover.

After Otto Heinrich Lange had already joined the Hanover Art Association in 1854 , King George V , who resided in Hanover, appointed the musician in 1857 to be the second conductor of the Royal Court and Church Choir , later the Hanover Cathedral Choir , also known as the Hanover Palace Church Choir . In the year of the annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover by Prussia , Otto Heinrich Lange initially rose to the position of first conductor “on probation ” in 1866, only to take this position for an unlimited period in 1867, until his retirement in 1886.

During his tenure, Otto Heinrich Lange continuously improved the quality of the choir he directed, composed his own songs and arranged other choral works . In addition, Lange published several collections of folk songs.

According to the address book of the royal capital and residence city of Hanover, the music director was awarded the Golden Medal of Honor for Art and Science in 1866 .

Otto Heinrich Lange died on his 66th birthday in Hanover.
