The parrot cerebrum in anatomical and physiological relationships (1905)

Otto Kalischer (born April 23, 1869 in Berlin ; † August 14, 1942 there ) was a German neurologist and anatomist .

Kalischer was born in 1869 as the son of the doctor Adolf Kalischer (1833-1893) and his wife Clara, b. Franck, (* 1833, † after 1921) born in Berlin. He had two siblings, Georg and Else, later married Beer. His cousin Siegfried Kalischer was also a neurologist.

In the winter semester of 1890/91 he passed his state examination at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and received his doctorate there at the end of 1891 with his thesis “On the kidney changes in scarlet fever ”. He submitted this dissertation as an assistant doctor at the Hanau rural hospital , where he had been working since May 1891 and also after his doctorate. From 1895 Kalischer worked in the anatomical institute Heinrich Wilhelm Waldeyers at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin and was a member of the Berlin medical society. (since 1893).

Kalischer carried out experimental studies with dogs, monkeys and parrots. In 1900 his monograph on urogenital muscles appeared, which was often cited.
