Otto Müller (born January 10, 1837 in Augsburg , † March 8, 1920 in Vienna ) was an Austrian musician , composer , conductor , organist and music teacher of Bavarian origin.

Life

Otto Müller, son of the composer and Regenschori of St. Ulrich in Augsburg Donat Müller (1804–1879), received his first music lessons from his father. He then studied German and music at the University of Munich as well as harmony , counterpoint and organ at the conservatory .

After an initial two-year career as a concert director in Winterthur , he was employed at several theaters in Switzerland , most recently in Lyon . In 1869 he moved to Vienna, where he was initially employed as an organist at the church at the court , and he also gave private music lessons. He was later appointed choirmaster at the Redemptorist Church in Hernals , a position he held for ten years. In addition, until 1915 he held the professorships for harmony and counterpoint at the school of the Vienna General Church Music Association.

The compositional work of the friend of August Wilhelm Ambros , who was highly valued by Eduard Hanslick , Johann von Herbeck and Joseph Böhm , includes a stabat mater with orchestra, an eight-part te deum a cappella, four- and more-part masses, a military mass, organ works as well Chamber music.

His honorary grave is in the Grinzinger Friedhof (group 18, number 138) in Vienna.
