Otto Sommer

Otto Sommer (born October 22, 1891 in Heidelberg , † August 18, 1940 in Kenley , Surrey ) was a German politician ( NSDAP ), lawyer and SA leader.

Life and activity

After attending the secondary school in Heidelberg, where he graduated from high school in 1910 , Otto Sommer studied law . 1916 doctorate he became Dr. jur. From the end of 1918 to 1920 he was the managing director of employers' associations in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe . From 1920 to 1925 he took on the duties of director of the Kaweco fountain pen factory in Heidelberg. In 1926 he became the owner of the Süddeutsche Photographische Gesellschaft Dr. Summer & Co in Stuttgart.

From April 24, 1932 until the dissolution of this body in autumn 1933, Sommer was a member of the NSDAP in the Württemberg state parliament . From November 1933 to March 1936, Sommer was a member of the National Socialist Reichstag for constituency 31 (Württemberg) . In October 1930, Sommer became a member of the SA and achieved the rank of Standartenführer there.

In 1937 he was colonel in the Air Force of the Armed Forces and introduced as a group commander of the III. Group of Kampfgeschwader 157 , renamed as of May 1, 1939 to Kampfgeschwader 27. At the same time, he was in command of the air base command of the Delmenhorst air base. On August 18, 1940, his Dornier Do 17Z-2 ( squadron identification F1 + HT) of 9th Squadron of Kampfgeschwader 76 was shot down during an air raid on Great Britain . After being hit by flak fire, she fell to the ground in Sunny Croft, Golf Road, Kenley . Sommer was killed in the process and is buried in the Cannock Chase cemetery.
