Otto Vellingk

Otto Vellingk (* 1649 in Kingissepp , Ingermanland ; † 19 May 1708 in Stockholm ) had been a count from 1706, a Swedish general from 1698 and a privy councilor from 1705 .

Life

Otto Vellingk was a member of the German-Baltic noble family von Welling . His father was the Swedish Colonel Otto Vellingk. His mother was Kristina Mannersköld. He had a younger brother named Mauritz Vellingk .

In 1664 he became a lieutenant in a Swedish regiment stationed in Bremen-Verden . He was transferred to French services in 1666. In 1670 he was promoted to colonel in the French army. During the Skåne War against Denmark, he volunteered at the Battle of Halmstad , where he commanded a squadron and was then promoted to colonel in the Swedish army. He then took part in the Battle of Lund . From 1678 Vellingk was a colonel in the Hämeenlinna regiment, and in 1683 he became general of the cavalry . In 1687 he became governor of Gästrikland , Hälsingland , Medelpad , Jämtland , Härjedalen and Lapland , a post which he exchanged in 1693 for that of governor general of Skåne . In 1698 he exchanged this position again for the post of Governor General of Ingermanland and Kexholm County.

At the Battle of Narva in 1700 he led the right wing. He also took part in the Battle of the Daugava in 1701, as well as in the Battle of Klissow in 1702 and in the Battle of Punitz in 1704. In 1705, Vellingk became Privy Councilor. He was raised to the rank of count in 1706.
