Welling coat of arms

Welling , also: Welinck , welling called vom Hoff , Wellingk or Swedish Vellingk is the name of a Livonian noble family originally from Münster in Westphalia , who achieved high honors and esteem, especially in Sweden .

The sex is not related to the von Welling , who came from Northeim and who were registered with the Bavarian Knighthood .

history

In the parish of Südlohn there was an estate called Welinck , which in 1353 Bishop Ludwig von Münster pledged to the squire Johann von Bermentvelde as a castle loan. Macharius Welinck was rector of the Fraterhaus Münster from 1450 to 1474 . Adelheid Welinck († 1499) joined the Marienbrink sister house in Coesfeld in Munsterland in 1488 . As early as the 15th century, the family had connections to the Baltic States, because in 1489 Hermann Welinck , a citizen of Münster, at the same time confessed in marital guardianship for his wife Else Welck that they were the parents of Johann Welinck , who had died in Reval . The family line begins with the Welling family with Adam Welinck / Wellingk , born in Münster in 1500 , mayor of the Münsterland Hanseatic city of Werne in 1531, 1534, 1535 and 1538 , and was already a citizen of Riga before 1576 . In 1576, Gotthard Welling, a doctor of both rights, became mayor. On January 4, 1580 , King Stephan Báthory gave him the hereditary Polish nobility. Accused of treason during the calendar unrest in Riga and executed in 1586, his body was buried in Riga Cathedral. A son of the same name, born in Riga in 1579, became a Riga councilor in 1610, held the post of mayor of Riga for a few months in 1632, like his father, became chief bailiff and assessor of the castle court in 1646, vice-president of the court and in 1647 president of the Livonian consistory. He died in 1656 and was buried next to his father in Riga Cathedral in 1657.

The Swedish baron came on December 23, 1676 to the brothers Otto Vellingk (1649–1708) and Mauritz Vellingk (1651–1727). Both were introduced into the baron class of the Swedish knighthood in 1678 . A renewed elevation to the Swedish count status took place on May 30, 1711, with introduction to the count class in 1719. With the above last named Count Mauritz Vellingk, the count's line of the sex found its origin in the male line , since both his son Count Ernst August Vellingk († 1723) and his nephew Count Otto Mauritz Vellingk († 1725) died before him. The main line continued in Finland .

From 1582 to 1585 Jerkull was a family fief. Furthermore, in the 17th century the village of Maidsen near Treiden and the Jewe estate in Wierland also belonged to the family. Uxküllshof or Ninigal and Zehrten near Smilten and Gresten near Ronneburg were owned by the family until 1724, and Noetkenshof was added briefly in 1725. In Sweden, the Sturehov castles were family-owned after 1661 and Ekenäs from 1687 to 1727, and there were other estates in Finland.
