Schwöbber Landscape Park

In 1750 he created an eight-hectare English landscape park in Schwöbber (see Schwöbber Castle ). He converted the existing palace park from 1700 into a landscape park based on the English model. The landscape park is considered to be one of the earliest of its kind in continental Europe. The baron was well aware that the concept of the English landscape park could not be adopted unchanged for German conditions:

“One can lay out princely gardens in the style of English parks; but if we German noblemen wanted to follow them and turn our estates into parks, we would have to raise so many thousands of pounds from our plantations in the West Indies. "

His six-volume work Der Hausvater , created from 1764 to 1773, is a horticultural and agricultural textbook. It contains a collection of tips for agriculture, such as general wisdom, which was highly regarded at the time. Works of this kind were later referred to as house fathers literature .

The plant genus Muenchhausia L. from the family of the loosestrife (Lythraceae) has been named after him. However, the name is mostly only used as a synonym for the generic name Lagerstroemia L. , which is valid today.
