Ottorino Pietro Alberti

Ottorino Pietro Alberti (born December 17, 1927 in Nuoro , Sardinia , Italy ; † July 17, 2012 there ) was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cagliari .

Life

Ottorino Pietro Alberti first studied agricultural science at the University of Pisa and then entered the seminary . After his theological and philosophical training he received on 18 March in 1956 by the Bishop of Nuoro , Giuseppe Melas , the ordination . He became general secretary of the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome . At the same time he studied theology and dealt with the subject of science and faith . He was professor and rector of the Cagliari seminary.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on August 9, 1973 Archbishop of Spoleto and Bishop of Norcia . The Pro-Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops , Sebastiano Baggio , ordained him episcopal on September 8th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Giuseppe Bonfigioli , Archbishop of Cagliari, and Giovanni Melis Fois , Bishop of Nuoro. After the union of the Diocese of Norcia with the Archdiocese of Spoleto, he became the Archbishop of that Archbishopric on September 30, 1986.

On November 23, 1987, he was appointed Archbishop of Cagliari. He was also President of the Bishops' Conference of Sardinia . On June 20, 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

He was a member of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and initiated, among other things, the process of beatification of Simona Tronci. He was an Honorary Canon of Nuoro Cathedral.
