Giovanni Melis Fois

Giovanni Melis Fois (born October 7, 1916 in Sorgono , Nuoro Province , Sardinia ; † September 3, 2009 in Genoni , Oristano Province , Sardinia) was Bishop of Nuoro .

Life

Giovanni Melis Fois was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Oristano on August 13, 1939 . He was active in pastoral care and became vicar general in Oristano.

In 1963 he was appointed by Pope John XXIII. appointed Bishop of Tempio-Ampurias . The Archbishop of Oristano , Sebastiano Fraghì , gave him episcopal ordination on July 28th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Paolo Carta , Bishop of Sassari , and Antonio Tedde , Bishop of Ales-Terralba . Pope Paul VI appointed him bishop of Nuoro in 1970.

On April 16, 1992, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. Giovanni Melis Fois retired in Genoni and died of heart failure in 2009 during a mass in the Chapel of San Giovanni Battista in Fonni .

Giovanni Melis was considered the voice of the Sardinian bishops and representatives of the population, especially for his social commitment.
