Otz Tollen (born April 9, 1882 in Berlin ; † July 19, 1965 there ) was a German actor , film director and screenwriter .

Life

He attended the Hock'sche drama school after secondary school and made his debut on September 29, 1906 at the Stadttheater Konstanz in a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream . After stage stints in St. Gallen and Basel , he came to Nuremberg in 1911 at the Intime Theater .

In May 1912 he first appeared at the Small Theater in his hometown of Berlin. In the same year Joe May hired him for his film In the depths of the shaft , where Tollen played a mine director. In the spring of 1915 he was called up for military service and was a soldier at the front until the end of the war.

He then resumed his acting on stage and in film. In the years 1921 to 1925 and again from 1929 to 1935 he concentrated almost exclusively on his theater work at the Trianon Theater , Residenz Theater, Wallner Theater , the Art Theater , Theater am Kurfürstendamm , Comedy and the Renaissance Theater .

In the case of silent films, he was not only an actor but also a director, he also wrote screenplays and was a co-founder of two film companies. He did not make his debut in talkies until 1935. He had to be content with smaller roles throughout, often impersonating police officers or officers. After 1945 he also worked for RIAS and NDR . Tollen was buried in the St.-Matthäus-Kirchhof .
