action
In an imaginary Scandinavian country , an ambitious radical buys an indebted country estate in order to be able to become a member of parliament as a resident, which he finally succeeds in doing. Rescue in the party turmoil is the military dictatorship under the determined governor General Werkonen. The new deputies will ensure that this one attack perpetrated. The general is only slightly injured when it is carried out. The hired assassin now feels abandoned by his client and takes revenge with his murder.
The suspicion of murder falls on the young guard officer Lieutenant Robert Runeberg, the son of the former landowner, who probably had a motive for alleged counterfeiting of his father. And that very officer cannot come out with his alibi; because the said alibi is a simultaneous conversation with his childhood friend Maria, the current wife of the military governor, and he does not want to compromise this. While everyone involved is still struggling with questions of conscience, the guard officer is reaching for the pistol and the governor is about to resign, the real murderer turns up in time. This saved all honor and especially the honor of the body regiment.

Reviews
The evangelical film observer does not believe in the film : “After defusing the side tendency that was clearly anti-democratic at the time, there remained a sentimental gossip that pathetically demonstrates an outdated code of honor. Totally superfluous. ”The lexicon of international film does not come to a better assessment either:“ Agents, officers, beautiful women, love and honor in an adventurous colportage film with Nazi tendencies. ”Boguslaw Drewniak already called the literary model a" strong-minded material " and found The Governor was "a politically 'strong' film".
