The Pâmiut is a former fisheries research vessel of the Grønlands Nature Institute .

history

The ship was built under hull number 61 at the Ørskovs Staalskibsværft shipyard as a stern catcher . The launching of the ship took place in December 1970 and was completed in July 1971. The ship was of Royal Greenland operated and was initially chartered to Greenland's Nature Institute. In 1996 Grønland's Nature Institute bought the ship.

The ship was primarily to monitor the shrimp - halibut - and cod stocks in the waters around Greenland used. The ship could also be chartered. The daily cost was 100,000  DKK (2015).

Due to its age, the ship was decommissioned in 2018.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is of a Alpha - diesel engine (type: 16V 23LU) with 2325 PS power driven. The motor acts on a propeller via a reduction gear . Three diesel generators are available to generate electricity. Two are powered by MAN B&W diesel engines (type: 3T23HH), one by a Scania diesel engine (type: DS1140M205).

The deck superstructures are in the front half of the ship. There is a closed crow's nest in the mast on the superstructure , which can be used to observe marine mammals and birds . There is space on board for 12 crew members and 16 scientists. An open working deck is located behind the superstructure. The ship is equipped with a stern lift for hauling in the nets .

The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class A).
